HATR November News - Black Friday Run and Gear Sale!

It's been yet another busy month for the HATRs!  This edition will be short and sweet and will cover a few immediate upcoming events, and touch on some future plans for the group!

First, a quick recap of the last month.  Our group runs still continue to go strong!  We have a regular group hitting Trail Running Tuesday (5:30 PM at Memorial Park Southside Trails) and our Saturday Group Runs (6:00 AM at Memorial Park Southside Trails).  For more info on our group runs check us out here.  We also have had some great representation at Houston area races over the last month, with good group attendance at the Night Moves Half Marathon, Cactus Rose 100, Jackalope Jam and Wild Hare among a handful of others.  Congrats to all who raced!

We still got a good group attending a monthly run up in Huntsville State Park.  The October event drew a nice group of HATRs and some even in costume.  The next run is on November 27th...check them out here and find more info on our website!

As for upcoming events, we have two big ones!  The first will take place on Black Friday starting at midnight.  Why go wait in lines at a store when you can go run some sweet single track in the dark and work off all those Thanksgiving Day Indulgences!  The run will take place at the Memorial Park Southside Trails starting at midnight on November 25th (this is Thanksgiving Night, not Friday Night).  We will meet back at the trail head every hour on the hour and pick up anyone who wants to join late (or early).  Skratch Labs has been kind enough to provide us with nutrition.  RSVP for the event here!

Lastly, we will have a one day sale on HATR gear for Cyber Monday!  Use code CYBERMONDAY2016 to get a 30% discount on all HATR gear.  Get it while you can!  The code is only good on November 28th (don't worry, we'll send a reminder).  Check out the gear at the HATR Store!

That's all for now, stay tuned for some future news.  The club is working on a race takeover for 2017, more to come!

HATR October News and Gear Sale!

Lot's to talk about this month, so let's get too it!  In this edition we'll go through a quick summary of the last month and then we'll get to a gear sale at the newly launched HATR store and talk about HATR becoming an official non-profit (we are so official)!

First, just some general news.  The club is going strong and continuing to attract new members!  We continue to had very strong representation at Texas races.  A number of HATRs made the trip to El Paso for the Franklin Mountains Trail Run back in September, and many of us ran locally at Blazing 7's in early October.  Many other races on the calendar including J&J at Camp Eagle (formerly Nueces), Rawhide out at Flat Rock Ranch and a host of others had HATRs running.  As far as volunteering, we had a good group come out to give back to the trails at the George Mitchell Nature Preserve up in Spring as part of National Lands Day on September 24.  Big thanks to all who came out and gave back to the trails!  Our weekly group runs continue to go strong with Trail Running Tuesday at 5:30 PM and the good old Saturday Group Run at 6:00 AM.  Check out the web-site for details and be sure to join us!  We've also had a group that's hitting up Huntsville State Park once a month or so, so check them out here https://www.facebook.com/hsptrailrun/

In other news, HATR has been designated by the IRS as a 501c3 public charity. This will allow us to do far more as a club!  We are accepting donations (optional dues) and they are now tax deductible!  We have worked for months for this and believe it will help advance our mission of fitness in Houston via trail running. Consider donating today at http://www.trailrunninghouston.com/join-hatr/.  Thanks to all who have contributed so far!

Lastly, we are happy to announce that we are going to have a fall gear sale that runs from Thursday, October 20th until Sunday, October 23rd!  If you ever wanted to get some of our new HATR gear, now is the time!  Use Promo Code FALL2016 to get 15% off EVERYTHING IN THE STORE!!  Check out store on the website and get your HATR gear on the cheap while you can!

That's about all for now HATRs!  See you all on the trails!

New HATR Website and Store is Live!

The Houston Area Trail Runners are proud to unveil our newly designed sleek website!  The goal of the new site was to provide HATR nation with great information on the club and the trail running world around Houston.  The biggest new feature is that the HATR Store is now live with long awaited new gear (samples and link to store below)!  Get your shirts and hats while they are hot, 'cause they aren't going to last!

As with any site, it will continue to be upgraded and we will add new features (local trail race calendar is in our future).  If you have any suggestions for content or links, please feel free to email webmaster@trailrunninghouston.com.

HATR News - June Edition

Well HATRs – as we roll into June we’ve got the hot and sticky heat of Houston summer to look forward to.  I think it is pretty safe to say that we are all tired of the rain and muddy, washed out trails at this point…so maybe a little sun and heat won’t be a bad thing!  With that, let’s get to some club updates!

Nice turnout at the HATR Memorial Day Run!

Nice turnout at the HATR Memorial Day Run!

May was a pretty great month for the HATRs – a number of us raced at the Wildflower Half and put on good performances earning us valuable TROT Cup points.  More importantly, we got to enjoy some beautiful sunny and low humidity weather and some great single track trails at Bastrop State Park.  HATRs are currently the 3rd place club in the TROT Cup…so keep racing and earning those points!  In addition to our normal group runs, we also had a good contingent have some fun in the rain and the mud at the Texas Treasure Quest.  A few of us also hit up Whispering Pines 50k up in Tyler in the middle of the month.  But May wasn’t just about running…we had a great turn-out at our 2nd HATR Happy Hour at Cottonwood the last week of May…big thanks for Carmen for getting it organized and drumming up a good crowd at a cool place!  Lastly, we ended up with a huge Memorial Day Group Run last Monday with an awesome turn-out!  Big thanks to Skratch Labs for providing us with hydration for the morning!

Looking to June, since most of us are training for some summer race or another, we will continue our weekly Saturday group runs at the Southside Trails at Memorial Park to start building up that heat tolerance!  We will also have another happy hour on June 24 (location TBD).  If we add any runs at different places we will be sure to post them here and on the Facebook Members Page, so be sure to check in on the latest updates!

Lastly – keep looking for new and exciting things coming from the club in the next few months!  We continue to get more organized and will be hosting more and more events.  Lots of good ideas cooking, so stay tuned!

Until next time, see ya’ll on the trails!
